Methyl Cellulose can be used as a suspension agent, thickener, emulsion stability agent, and as a protective colloid. MC is utilized in the pharmaceutical industry, either low viscosity or medium viscosity of methyl cellulose adhesive can be used in tablet or tablet coating. The high viscosity of methyl cellulose can be used to change disruption or as a controlled release formulation. High substitution degree allows the low viscosity of methyl cellulose to be used for water based coating. High degree of substitution and high viscosity methyl cellulose can be used in eye drops and cream preparations for gels of substrate material. Higher viscosity grades are used as a thickening agent in ointments, gels, and creams.
